ROSA: An Andean Network of Social–Ecological Observatories. Mountain Research and Development (MRD)

Andean social–ecological systems are increasingly affected by climate change, land-use change, and pressures on water resources. This study presents ROSA, a network of social–ecological observatories that integrates more than 50 long-term monitoring initiatives across eight nodal observatories in the Andes. The network focuses on hydroclimatic, ecological, and land-use dynamics, seeking to understand how environmental and socioeconomic drivers interact across different spatial and temporal scales. The findings highlight the importance of long-term participatory monitoring and knowledge coproduction to support climate adaptation, water security, and sustainable land management in Andean territories.
