Forest-based employment research: Taking stock and looking ahead

Forest-based employment is increasingly influenced by demographic change, climate vulnerability, sustainability requirements, and the need for decent work. This study reviews 29 articles on employment in the forest sector, identifying seven major research areas: skills and training, employment creation, gender and inclusion, social sustainability and bioeconomy transitions, occupational safety and health, institutional and policy frameworks, and distress-driven employment. The findings highlight established and emerging research priorities and emphasize the need for policies that promote inclusive, sustainable, and resilient forest-based employment.
