Prevalence and risk factors of bovine leptospirosis in the Ecuadorian Amazon

Background and aim: Leptospirosis is an infectious zoonotic disease that significantly affects animal health, particularly the reproduction of ruminants. However, some aspects of epidemiology and clinical characteristics have not been clarified. This study aimed to estimate the prevalence and identify risk factors of leptospirosis in female bovines at reproductive age in the Ecuadorian Amazon rainforest.

CD200 genotype is associated with clinical outcome of patients with multiple myeloma

Immune dysfunction in patients with MM affects both the innate and adaptive immune system. Molecules involved in the immune response pathways are essential to determine the ability of cancer cells to escape from the immune system surveillance. However, few data are available concerning the role of immune checkpoint molecules in predicting the myeloma control and immunological scape as mechanism of disease progression. We retrospectively analyzed the clinical impact of the CD200 genotype (rs1131199 and rs2272022) in 291 patients with newly diagnosed MM.

MILK COMPOSITION OF THE CREOLE GOAT IN AN EXTENSIVE HUSBANDRY ENVIRONMENT IN A SEASONALLY DRY FOREST OF SOUTHERN ECUADOR

Background. The Creole goat (Chusca Lojana) is found in the tropical zone of the seasonally dry forest (SDF) in Loja province (southern Ecuador, South America), where 73 % of the nationwide goat population is located. Objective. To study the productive characteristics and the milk quality of this population because this genetic resource represents a valuable socio-economic element for the habitants of this region. Methodology.

Current Situation of Plastic and its Recycling as Material for Rural Construction

The circular and climate-neutral plastics economy uses and manages plastics in a sustainable way. These days, there is an excessive accumulation of plastic waste and its recycling has become paramount. Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and polypropylene (PP) are among the most consumed and wasteful plastics. One solution to repel these wastes is to recycle them into construction materials. The objective of this work was to develop a hybrid material between recycled PET and PP plastics and aggregate material to be used as paving stones in rural construction floors.
